The images of watercolours on this site are examples of a growing collection of Ric's work devoted to Canada's Parklands. From his first taste of the North Country as a young boy in the mid 1960's a strong friendship was struck. Inspired by the rugged beauty of these places he embarked on a long held goal of painting his memories and strong feelings of these places.
Ric is a self-taught artist, who has quite literally sketched and painted all of his life. Over the past thirty years as he canoed and hiked the Ontario Northland, his teachers have ranged from the shores of Superior to the wilderness of Temagami, from the Thirty Thousand Islands of Georgian Bay to the heart of Algonquin. The majority of Ric's class time has been spent learning to see the colour, light and power of these special places.
Therein lies Ric's inspiration, to paint and share these feelings that combine to form that unexplainable pull of the North Country. The Strength of those settings comes through in Ric Liesch's NORTHSCAPES.
